For a first Aman, book the one where the setting does the heavy lifting: Amangiri (Utah desert theater, the most photographed Aman on earth), Amanzoe (Greek hilltop temple, beach club below), Amankila (Bali's east-coast original with the three-tier pool), or Amanpuri (the 1988 founding resort in Phuket, still the purest expression of the formula). Each delivers the Aman thesis — monastic architecture, staff ratios that feel telepathic, silence as the luxury — without asking you to already be a convert.

Understand the formula before you pay for it
Aman sells subtraction: few rooms (often 30–50), no lobby bustle, architecture that frames one landscape obsessively, and pricing that starts roughly $1,800–$2,500 a night at the resorts and climbs steeply. What it deliberately doesn't sell: nightlife, scene, kids' clubs at most locations, or anything that requires the word 'vibrant.' Travelers who need stimulation per dollar are happier at Rosewood or One&Only; travelers who exhale at the phrase 'nothing happens here' are home.
